Program Overview
The Early Childhood Education program at Admiral Peary AVTS prepares students for rewarding careers working with young children in child care, preschool, and educational settings. Students learn how children grow, learn, develop, and interact through a combination of classroom instruction and real-world experience.

What makes the ECE program unique is the opportunity for hands-on learning. Students regularly work with children in Head Start Early Learning Programs and The Learning Lamp Child Care Center on site, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in real preschool and child care settings.
ECE students have opportunities to:
- Teach and supervise children from infancy through age 5
- Plan and lead learning activities
- Create hands-on educational materials
- Complete child observations
- Assist teachers with daily classroom routines
- Explore careers through visits to local child care centers, preschool programs, elementary schools, and early intervention programs
The program prepares students to enter the workforce directly after graduation or continue their education in careers related to education, child care, human services, and child development.
